As background for attending Houston Ebony Opera Guild’s end-of -June concert, join us at the historic Gregory School for a concert preview and spirited discussion of the lives of contralto Marian Anderson, bass Paul Robeson, and tenor Roland Hayes. They will be viewed in the context of both their music and their times: the era of the civil rights struggle during which their storied careers occurred.

Speakers include Dr. C. Dianne Mack, a prominent researcher in the area of African American folk music and traditions, and an Associate Professor of Music at Texas Southern University. Joining her will be Dr. Virgil Wood, a theologian, author, lecturer, and activist who is well known for his close association with Dr. Martin Luther King.

This program is presented in collaboration with the African American Library at The Gregory School.
