Houston, TX — Houston Ebony Opera Guild (HEOG) proudly presents “We’ve Come This Far by Faith,” a special free Juneteenth celebration concert on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the historic Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston’s historic Third Ward community.
This inspiring community concert will feature internationally acclaimed soprano Nicole Heaston, whose celebrated career has included performances with the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and leading opera companies throughout the world.
Presented during the Juneteenth season, “We’ve Come This Far by Faith” is a musical celebration honoring faith, freedom, resilience, and the enduring legacy of African American artistry through spirituals, sacred music, classical selections, and inspirational works rooted in the Black musical tradition.
Held within one of Houston’s most respected African American institutions, the concert seeks to unite the community through music that uplifts, inspires, and reflects the strength and cultural contributions of generations past and present.
“Juneteenth represents both remembrance and celebration,” said Gregory D. McDaniel, Artistic Director of Houston Ebony Opera Guild. “This concert is an opportunity for the community to gather in faith, reflection, and joy while honoring the extraordinary legacy of Black musical excellence.”
Praised by The New York Times for her “radiant” and “handsomely resonant voice,” Nicole Heaston has become one of the nation’s most distinguished sopranos, with an international career spanning opera, concert, and recital performances.
Admission is free and open to the public. Early arrival is encouraged.
