Houston, TX — The Houston Ebony Opera Guild (HEOG) proudly presents Opera Gems: A Celebration of American Opera, taking place on April 26, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Heights Church in Houston.

This special performance will showcase a dynamic selection of operatic works by renowned American composers including Scott Joplin, Gian Carlo Menotti, Samuel Barber, Terence Blanchard, Nkeiru Okoye, and more. Audiences can expect an inspiring program featuring both soloists and ensemble performances that highlight the richness and diversity of American operatic tradition.

In alignment with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, Opera Gems serves as both a celebration and reflection of America’s artistic voice through music.

“This performance is an opportunity to connect our community with the power and beauty of American opera,” said Gregory McDaniel, Artistic Director. “We are proud to present a program that honors both tradition and innovation.”

Admission is available with a $20 minimum donation, with additional contributions welcomed in support of HEOG’s ongoing mission to promote and preserve the art of opera within the community.
