Annual African American Music Gala on March 9
Houston Ebony Opera’s chorus and soloists will sing works of Black composers
On March 9, 2008, the Houston Ebony Opera Guild Chorus will proudly present its Annual African American Music Gala: A Concert of Works by Black Composers. Entitled “The Concert Tradition in African American Spirituals and Sacred Compositions,” the program will feature a chorus of 44 singers and several of Houston’s most renowned soloists. A. Jan Taylor, a native Houstonian and nationally recognized expert in choral music, will serve as conductor.
This gala concert of works by Black composers will have only one performance. It will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street in the Museum District. Free parking will be available. The general admission ticket price is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For groups of 10 or more persons, the reduced price is $15 per ticket. This annual event is sponsored by Friends of Houston Ebony Opera Guild (FHEOG). Patricia A. Gregory is the current chair of FHEOG. Sonya Cobbin and Eileen McGovern Hanks are the co-chairs of the March 9 event. The concert’s s co-sponsors are St. James Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ.
